AI visibility checker for solicitors

The short answer

Pick your practice area and your town or city. The checker puts the question a would-be client might ask to ChatGPT and Perplexity. You see whether each one recommended your firm, whether it cited your website, and which other firms it listed. It costs nothing and takes under a minute.

Check your firm

Fill in the boxes and press the button. We ask both tools the question a client might type, with web search on, and show you what they say.

Your practice area and town go to DataForSEO, a data provider, which asks ChatGPT and Perplexity for us. Your firm name and website stay on our server and are only compared with the answers. See our Privacy Policy.

What is AI visibility?

It is whether AI answer tools name your firm, or cite your website, when someone asks them for a solicitor. A Google ranking is a list of pages. An AI answer is one piece of text that names a few firms, so you are either in it or not.

Google says there are "no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode", and no special optimisation is needed.[1] Its advice is the same as for ordinary search: pages that are indexed, helpful and written for people.[1] This checker reads ChatGPT and Perplexity, not Google AI Overviews.

How the check works

This is what happens when you press the button.

  1. We build one question from your practice area and town: Which personal injury solicitors in Leeds would you recommend? Name specific firms. Your result shows the exact wording.
  2. We send it to ChatGPT, with web search on, and to Perplexity, with the search location set to the United Kingdom. A data provider called DataForSEO passes the question on and returns the answers.
  3. We read each answer. Your firm counts as named when its name appears in the text or in the list of firms. When we can't be sure, we say it may be, so you can read it yourself. The matching rules are in the questions below.
  4. If you entered your website, it counts as cited when it is one of the pages the tool lists as a source.
  5. We list the other firms the answer named when we can pull the names out cleanly. When we cannot, you get the full answer, not a guess.

What one check cannot tell you. AI answers change from run to run and by location, and we ask one question once. Clients ask in many different ways. Read the result as a snapshot, and run it more than once before you act on it.

How do you read the result?

Personal injury solicitors use this AI visibility tool the same way as every other practice area. Personal injury is one of the nine practice areas in the drop-down. Your result shows one card for ChatGPT and one for Perplexity. Each card has five parts:

  • The headline says the tool named your firm, may have named it, did not name it, or did not answer. "May have named" means your name could be in the answer, so read it yourself. Example: "ChatGPT named your firm".
  • The place in the list appears only when the firm was named. A lower number means the tool listed you earlier. Example: "Number 2 in the list of firms it gave".
  • The website line says yes when your site was one of the pages the tool lists as a source. "Not checked" means you did not enter a website.
  • Other firms are the firms the tool named instead of you or beside you. Look at their Google profiles and pages to see what they have that yours lacks.
  • The full answer link opens what the tool wrote and which pages it cited.

If neither tool names your firm, the groundwork in the next section is where to start. Our law firm SEO and AI search service covers it.

Why a firm is named or left out

Nobody outside the AI companies knows exactly how these tools pick firms, and nobody can promise a result. Things that usually matter:

  • A complete Google Business Profile, with the right categories, opening hours and website.
  • Recent reviews, with replies.
  • The same firm name, address and phone number on your site and in every directory that lists you.
  • Pages on your own site that answer what clients really ask about your practice area and town.
  • Mentions on other sites the tools read, such as legal directories and local news.

No single item promises a recommendation. They are the groundwork, and our guide to content marketing for law firms covers the page-writing part. Our local SEO and AI search work covers them. Our guide to SEO for solicitors shows what to do yourself first, and how to choose a legal marketing agency covers what to ask before you pay for it.

Our own test: On 17 Oct 2026 Naelar ran 18 non-brand questions through the APIs behind ChatGPT (gpt-5.4-mini with web search), Perplexity (sonar-pro) and Google AI Overviews, one run each. None of the answers named Naelar. We start from zero too. Our UK SEO clients get a monthly report that includes AI prompt tests.

How to check it yourself every month

You can repeat this without any tool. Once a month, do the following.

  1. Open ChatGPT and Perplexity in a private window, with web search on if you can choose.
  2. Paste the exact question from your result. Then ask it a second way, for example with a nearby town or a narrower type of matter.
  3. Write down the date, the tool, whether your firm was named, the other firms named and the pages cited.
  4. Compare with last month. Look at the firms that keep appearing and ask what their pages and profiles have that yours do not.

This checker keeps each answer for 7 days by question, that is by practice area and town or city. A repeat inside a week, or another firm asking the same question, sees the same answers. After that it asks the tools again.

Questions about the checker

Is the AI visibility checker free to use?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no email wall. To keep the cost down, each visitor gets three new checks a day, and a result is kept for 7 days. If the day's checks run out, try again tomorrow.

Does it check Google AI Overviews?

No. It checks ChatGPT, with web search on, and Perplexity. Google AI Overviews are a separate product and this tool does not read them.

What counts as named?

The firm's name appears in the answer text or in its list of firms. Letter case, punctuation, & versus “and”, endings like LLP or Ltd, and words like Law or Firm after a name are ignored, so Ashworth Law Firm matches Ashworth Law. A one-word name needs a legal ending or a word like Law right after it. When your name word appears without that, the result says your name may be in the answer, so read the full answer. A different firm with a similar name is not a match.

Why did the answer change when I ran it again?

AI answers vary from run to run, and they can differ by location. That is why the result is a snapshot and not a ranking.

What do you do with the details I enter?

The question sent to DataForSEO holds only your practice area and town. Your firm name and website stay on our server. We log the firm name and town of each new check to track cost. If you use the "Email me this" form, we also receive your name, firm and email.
